WWE SmackDown Results:

This week’s episode of SmackDown kicks off with various talents entering the venue. They follow that up with a video package hyping the match between John Cena and Logan Paul this weekend at Clash in Paris.

Logan Paul makes his way to the ring, and the WWE Universe in attendance hates every second of it. Paul says the people don’t have a problem with him; they have a problem with change. Paul says he isn’t a parasite, he’s a disruptor.

The crowd chants some swear words at Paul, and he loses his mind again. His voice starts to shriek as he tries to explain how much value he brings to WWE. Paul says TKO is welcome for all the big money deals he’s got them.

Logan Paul says he’s the future of WWE, whether you like it or not. The crowd is on Paul big time, and he doesn’t handle it well. Paul then cuts a promo in French on Cena and says that when he beats Cena on Sunday, he’ll prove to the world that he’s the future of the company.

Here comes John Cena…

He’s interrupted by John Cena. The crowd is ALIVE for his entrance, the man is as over as he’s ever been in this moment. Cena says Paul is stupid and he can’t do it all alone; if they don’t have the fans, they don’t have a show. Cena says when he looks at Paul, he sees so much potential, and that’s why it’s frustrating because he doesn’t put any effort into understanding what they actually do around here.

John Cena says Paul isn’t a disruptor, he’s a wannabe. Cena says he’s one of the original disruptors and talks about wrestling in jorts, changing title belts, and rapping to the ring. Cena says that’s Paul’s first lesson in basic thuganomics and says Paul is nothing more than a dimestore version of him.

John brings up the list of the top 25 influencers in the world that came out this week and mentions that Paul wasn’t on it. Cena says he’ll talk to Paul as a friend, and now he has to face facts; when he gets headlines lately, he’s getting them for the wrong reasons. Cena says Paul isn’t there to save wrestling, he’s there to save his own ass.

John Cena says the fans don’t fear change; they can see a fake. Cena then speaks to the crowd in French. Paul does the same. Cena says he’s real, which is something Paul isn’t. John says they give Paul nothing but opportunities, but he gives them no respect.

A heartwarming Cena moment

Cena says he’s going to teach Paul a lesson in respect. He goes to the aisleway and interacts with the same young fan he called out months ago after he turned heel. Cena apologized to the kid and said he was having a bad day, and he appreciated him being there for him when he needed him the most.

Logan Paul mocks Cena for what he did. Cena calls him a dickhead and says if they still don’t think he’s worthy after Sunday, he won’t save wrestling, he won’t even ruin wrestling. Because wrestling will ruin him.

Will the Street Profits get another shot at the gold?

Cathy Kelley is backstage with the Street Profits and B-Fab. the Street Profits hype up their match with Melo Don’t Miz tonight. Bo Dallas interrupts and questions if they are really family and says that when they come at them and fail, Ford and Dawkins will realize if they are really brothers.

Chelsea Green and Alba Fyre jump Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss on their way to the ring and target Flair’s knee as the show goes to a commercial break.

It’s announced that Flair suffered an injury, so this is no longer a title match and just a singles match between Alexa Bliss and Chelsea Green.

Alexa Bliss vs. Chelsea Green (w/ Alba Fyre)

  • The finish of the match saw Alexa Bliss overcome the numbers game and get a rollup victory on Chelsea Green.

Winner: Alexa Bliss

After the match, Fyre and Green attacked Bliss. A limping Flair comes out to try and assist, but they take her out, too.

Grade: B-

This was a bit disappointing. I guess it was really a series of unfortunate events. Shortly before SmackDown, it was announced that Piper Niven wasn’t cleared to compete. Then I guess they decided instead of going through with the match, they would do an injury angle with Flair instead. I’m not a fan of advertising a title match and not getting it, but it is what it is. The match itself was fine, but the result was a bit surprising and the exact opposite of what happened with Flair last week. Bliss was able to overcome the numbers game.

Is it Sami Zayn’s night?

Cathy Kelley is backstage with Sami Zayn to hype up tonight’s United States Championship match. Zayn says he’s feeling confident tonight and feels like he’s the same guy who main evented WrestleMania.

We get a vingette from Aleister Black, making it clear that his rivalry with Damian Priest isn’t over.

It flips backstage with Damian Priest and Cathy Kelley. Priest says Black threatening him with violence shows how unprepared he is for their fight. Priest says he’s going to be smiling when they get in the ring again because he’s going to enjoy every bit of violence he inflicts on him.

Michin vs. Kiana James (w/ Giulia)

  • This match lasted seconds. Kiana James tried to hit Michin with her purse, and Michin rolled her up instead.

Winner: Michin

After the match, Giulia and James attacked Michin and ended with Giulia curbstomping Michin on the steel steps at ringside.

Grade: N/A

I can’t grade a five-second match. Like, what even is this? Are we going to pretend like Kiana James is incompetent? We saw her work in NXT. She’s capable of having a real match on the main roster. This is another big disappointment on today’s show.

Will Drew McIntyre eat another RKO?

Drew McIntyre makes his way to the ring to speak to the WWE Universe. McIntyre wants to know if Randy Orton is hiding around ringside. McIntyre says he doesn’t want to fight Orton; he just wants to talk and asks him to come out so the fans can sing his song.

Randy Orton makes his way to the ring as the WWE Universe sings along with his entrance theme. McIntyre says if Orton attacked him last week for himself, that’s fine. But if he attacked him because he thinks Cody Rhodes is his friend, that’s not fine at all. McIntyre says Rhodes is nobody’s friend and calls him a liar and a politician.

McIntyre says Rhodes checking in on Orton while he was out with a back injury wasn’t being a friend; it was intel. Drew says if Randy believes Cody is his friend, he’s an idiot. Orton says McIntyre makes a very compelling argument. Orton says he dropped McIntyre last week because he thinks he’s a prick.

McIntyre hits Orton with a Glasgow Kiss. He tries to follow it up with a Claymore, but Orton ducks out of the way. Orton hits an apron DDT and attempts to hit an RKO, but is stopped by security. Orton RKOs them instead, as well as Shane “Hurricane” Helms. Randy attempts to punt Drew, but McIntyre rolls out of the ring first.

Who is helping whom?

Carmelo Hayes confronts The Miz backstage and says he can’t keep stealing his wins. Miz says he is winning more now than his entire time away. Miz tries to convince him that what he’s doing is a good thing. They are interrupted by Bo Dallas again and warned them if they win tonight’s match. Melo isn’t intimidated and tells Miz they got this win tonight.

Nick Aldis attempts to scold Randy Orton backstage for attacking security. Orton apologizes in his own way and gives Aldis a Fireball whiskey. R-Truth shows up and asks Aldis if he’s going to drink it, trying to take it. Aldis says after the day he’s had, he’s going to. Truth hands it back and says his bad before leaving.

#1 Contendership for the WWE Tag Team Titles: Melo Don’t Miz vs. Street Profits (w/ B-Fab)

  • The finish of the match saw The Miz get distracted by the Wyatt Sicks, which allowed the Street Profits to hit Carmelo Hayes with Revelation to score the pinfall victory.

Winners: Street Profits

The Street Profits will now challenge the Wyatt Sicks this Sunday at Clash in Paris.

Grade: B+

Only took getting 90 minutes into the show to get some fun wrestling out of this show. The crowd was very hot for Melo, and I’m sure they weren’t thrilled that he took the pinfall. WWE calling back to the history between The Miz and the Wyatt Sicks was well done and explained the finish of the match as far as I’m concerned.

Jade Cargill gets another title shot for some reason…

Tiffany Stratton is backstage, and Jade Cargill confronts her and says that due to her winning last week that he’s the number one contender again. Stratton and Cargill exchange words. I can’t believe they are running this match back. It wasn’t good at SummerSlam, and the rematch isn’t going to be any better.

WWE United States Championship: Solo Sikoa (c) (w/ The MFTs) vs. Sami Zayn

  • Jacob Fatu and Jimmy Uso come out during the match to even the odds with the MFTs. The finish saw Sami Zayn hit Solo Sikoa with two Helluva Kicks to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: And NEW WWE United States Champion, Sami Zayn!

Grade: A-

Sami Zayn celebrates with his newly won United States Title, and pyro goes off as WWE SmackDown goes off the air.

WWE SmackDown Review:

The main event really saved this show. Beyond the segment between John Cena and Logan Paul, the first hour of this show was not good. The second hour really helped things out with a good tag match and a very fun main event with an unexpected title change.

It will be interesting to see if WWE pays off Zayn’s journey at WrestleMania next year by finally winning a World Championship. This title win in the meantime is a good step, in my opinion.

Grade: B
