WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry refused to apologize after receiving backlash for his comments on the Raja Jackson incident.
The Raja Jackson incident with Syko Stu drew outrage from fans and wrestlers alike. Mark Henry, however, claimed that Stu shared some blame for the chaos. His stance sparked heavy criticism online, with many accusing him of being insensitive and even racist.
Addressing the backlash on Austin’s 1300 The Zone sports radio, Mark Hendry shut down accusations of racism. “I’m over here in the UK DJing every night, selling out shows, 2,000, 1,000 people. Everything is great. I’ve experienced zero racism while I’ve been here.” He explained why he rejects the label being called racist.
“Well, first off, it’s impossible for me to be a racist because I would have to have power over someone in a bigoted way. I’m not bigoted and I don’t have power over people. Now there’s people that work for me and people that I work with. I don’t ever have to defend myself about being a racist. The people that know me know who I am as a man and as a person.”
According to Henry, the veterans could have “smartened him up,” before the match but didn’t. Instead, he said some were drinking before the show. When Jackson was hit on the head with a beer can, Hendry questioned, “He’s supposed to understand and process all this information? No. It’s not gonna happen.”
Mark Henry fired back at fans “I’m making zero apologies”
Mark Hendry recalled his early struggles in wrestling, “I got banished from wrestling and sent to Canada. And if it wasn’t for the Hart family, who took my ass in and said. “Mark, you have to be educated. You don’t know wrestling. You’re a fan.” “Let us help you.”
“And they helped me. They educated me. They taught me how to be who I became, which is a Hall of Fame wrestler, which is somebody that’s very well respected, not only in pro wrestling, but in radio and television”
He made it clear, “I have not got one racist bone in my body. I love you. God put me on this earth to be a helper and to be a watcher. And you read the Bible, you understand who the watchers are. I’m one of them.”
Henry stood by his words, adding. “I’m making zero apologies for what I said. I meant every word every single word I meant. You have to be responsible on both sides.” On wrestling standards, he explained, “The WWE is where they are because they do great business, because they smarten everybody up. And when people go off script, they get fined, they get suspended, they get sent away. Until you know better, you can’t be on our program.”
Closing strong, Henry said, “So all of you fans out there that have these racist tendencies and all the vitriol for me, have at it. You can’t hurt me. I’m bulletproof. I’m the world’s strongest man, and that’s my statement.”
