The Rock is proud of the person his daughter has become.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson was joined by his daughter, NXT GM Ava, at a screening of his new film, The Smashing Machine, at BAFTA 195 Piccadilly in London. During an interview with MTV UK, Johnson was ask to comment on how proud he is of his daughter.
“Oh man, I’m so proud of her,” The Rock said, taking a moment to gather his composure.
“You’ve got it, lock it in,” Ava told him.
“I got it, I’m gonna lock it in. I’m so proud of her because it’s what I did and I love what I did. I love wrestling, I grew up in wrestling. She was born into it too, just like I was. And she said, ‘Hey, I wanna do what you do.’ But the difference is—it’s why I get emotional—[she says] I wanna do what you do, but I want to carve my own path.
“That’s the difference and that was a big deal when I heard that. Because it’s easy, I think, for any kid who wants to come up and do what their parents are doing. Maybe it’s not overt, but to utilize the influence. I’m telling you, it never happened. I never got that call like, ‘Hey, can you call…’ someone, and that’s the truth. And that’s the thing that makes me proud.”
The Rock said he would’ve been there even if he got that call, but not getting it gave him a “profound sense of pride” because he knew he and her mom raised an amazing person.
Fans can watch Ava’s work every Tuesday on NXT on The CW.
