Matt Riddle says the ‘King Of Bros’ is gone.
Riddle turned heel at MLW’s Slaughterhouse event this weekend. The ‘Original Bro’ and former MLW World Champion took on Alex Hammerstone at the latest MLW show. During the match, a run-in featuring Mads Krugger, Bishop Dyer and Donovan Dijak took place. Riddle used the distraction to hit Hammerstone with a low blow and pick up the win.
MLW commentator Joe Dombrowski questioned Riddle, who was primarily positioned as a babyface in MLW, about using a cheap shot to pick up the win. Riddle ended up ripping into the fans and turned heel, claiming the ‘Rude Dude’ was now here.
Riddle told everyone that he was a pro wrestler for fun, and he could beat the sh*t out of anyone in the crowd or on the MLW roster. He said the truth hurt, which drew a ton of boos from the crowd, before declaring the ‘Rude Dude’ was now here.
“The King of Bros is done, and this is the era of the Rude Dude.”
Riddle has worn “RD” on his ring trunks, so it is a moniker that he has at least referenced before.
Matt Riddle has been a controversial figure in recent months
Matt Riddle’s heel turn comes at a time when he’s been making headlines for the wrong reasons. Riddle was accused of no-showing and ripping off a charity wrestling event last month. He defended himself, claiming he was innocent of any wrongdoing. However, this claim came despite the promotion’s claims that Riddle knew the details about their deal months in advance.
Fans torched Riddle after he called people who believed the allegations against him “dumb f*cking cunts.” Riddle was referring to Samantha Tavel’s (Candy Cartwright) 2020 accusations that he had sexually assaulted her. Riddle claimed they were in a consensual relationship (and that his then-wife knew about it). Tavel sued Riddle, but the lawsuit was ultimately dropped.
