Nic Nemeth Pitches Surprising Name For John Cena’s Madison Square Garden Opponent

Nic Nemeth wouldn’t mind seeing a former WWE Superstar appear as John Cena’s final opponent in Madison Square Garden.

The Cenation Leader has four dates remaining on his retirement tour as of this writing. His next appearance is scheduled for the November 10 episode of RAW in his hometown of Boston. Followed by a show at Madison Square Garden in New York on November 17.

Cena will work his final WWE premium live event at Survivor Series: WarGames, with his retirement match set for Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, D.C., on December 13, 2025.

While there are rumors that Cena will compete at Madison Square Garden, nothing has been officially confirmed. That said, Nic Nemeth believes New York’s very own Matt Cardona (formerly known as Zack Ryder) should be Cena’s opponent at MSG.

Nic Nemeth on John Cena’s potential final opponents

During a recent appearance on KVIA ABC-7, Nemeth said he wouldn’t mind seeing Matt Cardona face John Cena at Madison Square Garden. As for Cena’s final opponent, Nemeth suggested it could be Batista, given the D.C. connection.

“I wouldn’t mind seeing — I know there’s a Madison Square Garden match, I wouldn’t mind seeing Matt Cardona show up representing New York. Then, when they get to DC, maybe Batista. Who knows, it could be anyone from the past or someone new.” [H/T: Fightful]

Nic Nemeth isn’t the first to suggest Matt Cardona as one of John Cena’s final opponents. Former WWE Superstar Karrion Kross echoed similar sentiments after Cena and AJ Styles tore the house down at Crown Jewel: Perth.

Cardona made his first WWE in-ring appearance in five years during a recent episode of NXT. The former Intercontinental Champion faced Josh Briggs in singles action and even received a shoutout from John Cena following his return.
