Jimmy Uso has finally revealed why The Usos kept a key part of their gimmick for so long in WWE.
The Usos made their WWE television debut alongside Tamina Snuka at the expense of The Hart Dynasty in 2010. Jimmy and Jey didn’t wear face paint during the first few years of their run until it became a part of their persona in 2013.
During a recent appearance on the Cheap Heat podcast, Jimmy Uso revealed that WWE officials encouraged The Usos to start wearing face paint so they could tell the twins apart from Roman Reigns.
“I’ll never forget, when we did that switch… the character changes… you’ve got to evolve around this business,” Jimmy recalled. “When we did the switch, we were like, ‘Yo, we don’t want to wear no paint.’ And they told us, the higher-ups at the time, they were like, ‘You need the paint. How the hell are we going to tell y’all apart from Roman?’
“And I remember going, ‘What? From Roman?’ I remember thinking, like, how, bro? We all look alike, we all got the same ink on us. But we don’t… you can tell The Usos from Roman.” [H/T: WWFOldSchool]
The Usos ditched the face paint gimmick after their quick loss to American Alpha on the September 6, 2016, episode of WWE SmackDown, turning heel by attacking Chad Gable and Jason Jordan.
