Ethan Page says his recent character change to use his Canadian nationality on television was mildly strategic.
Reigning NXT North American and AAA Mixed Tag Team Champion Ethan Page was a guest on The Mark Moses Show. He addressed his character change during the conversation and claimed it was just a timing thing.
Ethan Page said he realized the opportunity after WWE shows started streaming live globally, including in Canada, on Netflix, and that he wanted to show the people from his country how he’s representing them in WWE.
“You know, I think it’s just a timing thing. I realized the opportunity with what the biggest deals that WWE has been making recently with streaming. We have our shows airing internationally live. So, in Netflix, in Canada, everyone from my home country is able to watch me live every Tuesday when NXT airs.
“So in my home country, that’s huge,” Ethan Page continued,”so why would I not want to show them that I’m supporting them throughout this entire experience? I would assume others from other countries feel the same, because again, we stream internationally on Netflix around the world.
“So this company has become even more global than before, and I found the timing to be absolutely perfect. Yes, it was mildly strategic, but what isn’t in wrestling?”
Ethan Page And Chelsea Green’s First Title Defense Is Set For NXT Gold Rush
Ethan Page and Chelsea Green won the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship at the AAA Alianzas event on November 2. They had a championship celebration two nights later on NXT, but were interrupted by Joe Hendry.
The TNA star introduced NXT’s Thea Hail as his partner, and the two teams will clash for the AAA Mixed Tag Team Championship at NXT Gold Rush on November 18.
The event will also feature a TNA Knockouts World Championship triple threat match between Kelani Jordan, Jordynne Grace, and Léi Yǐng Lee. Blake Monroe would defend her Women’s North American Championship against Sol Ruca if the latter is cleared to compete, and Zaria and the winner of a tournament will battle for the vacant Women’s Speed Championship.
