CM Punk says there’s still one major goal he wants to achieve in his hometown of Chicago.
On Barstool’s Mostly Sports podcast, Punk was asked what he still wants to accomplish in Chicago. He immediately named the famous venue. “Wrigley Field.” When asked in what way, Punk replied, “Wrestle at Wrigley Field.”
Punk explained that Wrigley executives are interested in hosting a WWE event, but Major League Baseball makes planning difficult. He said MLB doesn’t release the Cubs’ schedule early enough for WWE to secure dates in advance.
“They won’t release the schedule until, you know, they want to. So we can’t get a jump start and look at dates and stuff like that. Yes, Wrigley hosts concerts in the summertime and stuff like that, but they won’t give us a big enough head start to figure out dates.”
“It’s why I was kind of rooting for the Dodgers to win the World Series, to further solidify the lockout in 2027, because yeah, I’m 100% selfish. If there’s no baseball in 2027, that means I’m selling out Wrigley Field.”
CM Punk sold out every other building in Chicago, so Wrigley is the next on his list
He noted that he’s already sold out every indoor venue in Chicago, so an outdoor stadium like Wrigley is the next step.
“I mean, I’ve sold out every place in Chicago with a roof. So now I got to go to these outdoor places. And Wrigley to me is church. It’s got a little bit of wrestling history. There were some matches there. They used to wrestle at old Comiskey, too.”
Punk concluded by saying that wrestling at Wrigley is his final Chicago goal, “So I’m looking forward to that. That’s what I have left to conquer in Chicago.”
Wrigley Field opened in 1914 as Weeghman Park before taking its now iconic name in 1927. The “Friendly Confines” has undergone major renovations twice, including the most recent that was completed in 2019.
