Former WWE announcer Justin Roberts was once the victim of a brutal passport prank.
During a recent appearance on The Velvet Ropes with SoCal Val, former WWE Superstar Jimmy Wang Yang opened up about the extreme backstage culture during his time with the company, particularly when it came to pranks.
While discussing backstage ribs, Jimmy recalled Justin Roberts being on the receiving end of a prank that left him stranded in Europe.
“Well, I’m old, you know, so the ribs back in the day were brutal,” he said. “It’s not like, ‘haha, oh my God, did you really do that?’ I’ve seen so much, but it’s just bad. My generation is different from the new-school generation.
“I remember being in Europe, and they took Justin Roberts’ passport before the flight. I was like, ‘wow, that’s bad.’ We were in London, at the airport, and they just took his passport… Yeah. He was stuck there for like two or three days. They took his passport back to the States.”
Justin Roberts signed with WWE in 2002. After working B-shows such as Heat and Velocity, Roberts began announcing for ECW before taking over RAW announcing duties from Lilian Garcia in 2009. Roberts left the promotion in 2014 and spent the next few years as an announcer on the independent circuit. Since 2019, he has been signed to All Elite Wrestling.
