Andre the Giant passed away in 1993, and in a recent post on social media, the funeral book for his service has been shared.
In a recent post on social media, Chris Owens, a producer who worked on a documentary for the legdn in 2018, as well as a fan who collects his memorabilia, shared some images. The photos, Owens notes, are from the guest book at Andre the Giant’s (real name André Roussimoff) funeral.
The guest book showcases a litany of signatures from figures from all walks of life. Athletes, stars, and other wrestlers attended the service. Notably, wrestling names like Vince McMahon, Mae Young, and former referee Rita “Marie” Chatteron can be seen.
Andre the Giant began his wrestling career in 1966. During the height of his career, the star became the biggest face in the sport. Known for his massive 7’4″, 520 lb frame, Roussimoff’s popularity peaked during his infamous feud with Hulk Hogan. This included a match where the two headlined WrestleMania III in 1987.
In 1993, Roussimoff passed away due to congestive heart failure and an apparent heart attack in his sleep, at the age of 46. His legacy has persevered in wrestling, with WWE honoring him in many ways. The most notable is the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, which is hosted annually during WrestleMania weekend.
