Eddie Edwards is confident that TNA can go out and deliver now that the company has a new television deal.
Edwards spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard to promote TNA’s new media rights deal with AMC Networks. Edwards says TNA needing a bigger TV deal was something that the locker room constantly talked about, as it would elevate the company.
Now that it’s happened, Edwards says it’s up to the TNA roster to go out and deliver. He compared it to holding a championship, noting that everyone wants to hold a title, but the real work starts once you get it.
“I feel like it’s the same right now. We all have to step up our game. We all have to be ready to deliver. Because we wanted this opportunity, and now we have it, and we’re gonna hopefully, I’m assuming we’re gonna get a whole lot of new eyes on our product, that we need to show what TNA can do, and that means, from wrestling to production to everybody involved, which I’ve always said all along, this team has worked so well, because we all had that same goal to get to this point.
“Now, we all have to have that same goal, where we want to deliver what we told everybody we can do. So now, I think as long as everybody continues to do what we’re doing and kind of steps up in the areas that we can, we’re gonna show the world, and show those new viewers what we’ve been preaching for so long. We just needed that opportunity, and it’s here. Pressure is one of those things that’s earned. We’ve earned this pressure, so let’s put it on ourselves and go out there and do it.
Eddie Edwards says he’s confident in TNA, from the wrestling to the office
During a December 6 Q&A on Fightful Select, Sean Ross Sapp mentioned that in speaking with talent, a common reaction they gave was that creative was a ‘primary thing’ they wanted fixed. It was also noted that the feedback was “presented without instigation, so to speak,” but Sapp regularly clarifies that Fightful Q&As are not official reports.
TNA’s Trey Miguel recently called out an aggregated report about this topic, questioning where it comes from. Edwards said he knows everyone won’t always be happy with their creative direction, but he’s personally very happy with what he’s doing with The System.
“I mean, I think that’s very much some internet stuff going on. I’m sure at some point, everybody talks about it, and maybe at times somebody doesn’t agree with the creative. But that’s professional wrestling. I don’t think any of that’s an issue. We’re not gonna let some rumors overshadow what is going on with AMC.
“Like I said, everybody could step up their game. Does that mean that we’re not doing our best just because there’s rumors of creative? No. Everybody’s going out there and trying to kill it. Especially for me, if somebody tries to ask me, ‘Are you happy with creative?’ I’m with my wife, my best friends, doing the job that I love. I couldn’t have asked for anything more.”
Pro Wrestling is one big, messy family
Edwards said pro wrestling is just like any other job, where you’ll have frustrations at times. However, they are still a family at the end of the day, working together towards the same goal.
“It’s a messy family, and sometimes people might be upset, other people are happy, and it goes up and down. That’s all it does, so I’m not worried about that. I’m very confident in all of our abilities, from wrestling to front office, going forward.”
