WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash once got stabbed for real while filming The Punisher.
The accident happened during a fight scene with actor Thomas Jane, who played the titular character in the 2004 film. During an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Thomas Jane confirmed the incident and explained exactly what went wrong.
“That was a bad day… I grab the prop knife, plunge it into his chest and it stabs him,” Jane explained. “It goes in. I’m looking at the knife, I’m looking at him. Kevin’s looking down at me and there’s a knife sticking out of his chest.”
Jane said he expected Nash, who played The Russian in the Marvel Comics film, to explode in anger, but instead, the WWE legend stayed calm.
“And you know what made it worse? He was so nice about it,” Jane said. “You’re like, ‘Oh my god, this guy’s going to knock me across the room.’ Just out of a reflex. He just sat there, looked at the knife, looked at me and shook his head. I sent him a couple cases of beer, if I remember right.”
Kevin Nash explained what went wrong
Kevin Nash spoke about the accident on his Kliq This podcast and described how the real knife ended up being used.
Nash said the moment it happened, he thought. “Ow… what was that?” He continued, “So they had… it’s the scene where there’s a butterfly knife, and they have two knives: they have the one that he actually f*cking manipulates, and then they have the other one that, as you push it, the blade retracts inside of the handle.
“I got stabbed right here in the collarbone with the real… It wasn’t like I’d done 9,000 movies. This was Marvel, and boom, they stabbed me.”
Nash said the real knife stayed on set because Thomas Jane needed to practice with it for accuracy. When the wrong knife ended up in the scene, Nash trusted that the crew had done their job. He ended the story with a blunt reminder about working on dangerous sets.
“You’re handed a f*cking weapon, it’s like, we’re going, you know ‘And action…’ F*cking, you better have the right weapon.”
