Rare Footage Of John Cena Wrestling Ric Flair Revealed

Rare footage of John Cena wrestling Ric Flair has emerged.

Despite being in WWE at the same time for several years, John Cena and Ric Flair never had a singles match against each other. They were partners in a few tag team matches, but apart from the 2005 Royal Rumble and a house show in 2008, they were never opponents.

However, they did compete against each other during John Cena’s early days in OVW as The Prototype. The match took place at the OVW Spring Breakout event in 2002, where Cena teamed with Sean O’Haire in a losing effort against Ric Flair and his son, David Flair.

Ric Flair has now posted a clip from the match on X/Twitter following John Cena’s retirement, saying it brings back some memories.

“This Footage Brings Back So Many Memories! This Is The Only Time I Had The Opportunity To Wrestle @JohnCena! A Young GOAT In The Making! WOOOOO!”

Ric Flair Believes WWE Should Book One Of John Cena’s Iconic Rivals Better

Speaking on a recent episode of the Double Coverage podcast, Ric Flair spoke highly about Randy Orton, but expressed disappointment over how WWE has used his former Evolution stablemate as of late.

Randy Orton, I mean, he’s third generation,” Flair said. Randy is the best male worker in the company right now. They don’t utilize him the way I would if I was booker, but I’m not. So, he can still work his ass off. But, he’s making a lot of money. He’s doing good. He’s happy. And that’s all that matters.” [H/T: WrestlingNews.co]
