Damian Priest recently shared his honest thoughts on Dominik Mysterio, saying that Mysterio lacked direction before joining The Judgment Day.
Speaking on the Delivering Happiness podcast, Priest reflected on his early impressions of Dominik and how much he has changed over the years. “He’s unreal, like, where he’s gone. When I first met him, he was… I want to say lost, but he didn’t have a direction.”
Priest explained that Dominik was still closely tied to his father, Rey Mysterio, at the time, and hadn’t yet found his own identity. “He was paired with his dad. He had short hair, clean cut, he was just wrestling and having fun.”
Damian Priest reveals that The Judgment Day became like a family
That all changed when Dominik Mysterio joined The Judgment Day. He said, “I think once everyone decided like a change needed to be made and he joins Judgment Day and then he and I, along with Rhea, got a lot closer.”
He continued, “I mean, then it was on a regular daily basis that we were hanging out. It wasn’t just at the arenas. Like, we were going out afterwards, and he was training in Orlando, close to where I live. So then we were meeting up for dinner and stuff like that. So he was around me a lot and then we really got to become like family.”
Looking back, Priest said the transformation has been incredible. He said, “It’s crazy, like, seeing what I knew then to seeing what I know now of him and the way he is. Not the same kid. Like, that guy’s a megastar now.” [H/T: Fightful]
At WWE WrestleMania 41, Mysterio won his first singles championship by capturing the Intercontinental Title. Since then, he has been unstoppable and he also made headlines by defeating John Cena in Cena’s final premium live event match at Survivor Series: WarGames, proving how far he has come.
