TNA star Jeff Hardy has shared his reaction to John Cena’s retirement, calling the farewell run truly inspiring.
In a recent interview with MuscleManMalcolm, Jeff Hardy appeared alongside Matt Hardy, where Jeff reflected on John Cena’s career and his final match against Gunther. Hardy spoke highly of Cena’s dedication to WWE and the way he chose to close out his in-ring career.
He said, “He committed and dedicated so much of his human existence to the WWE, and it’s so inspiring.” Jeff Hardy also recalled the emotional finish to Cena’s final match, where Gunther forced him to submit. “I’ll never forget that view of the sleeper hold and the kind of smirk and then the tap. I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is amazing.'”
In addition to the ending, Hardy praised Cena’s overall performance during his final year in the ring. He noted that Cena continued to wrestle at a high level and wasn’t afraid to take risks, even late in his career.
He said, “And that last year, he was having some killer matches, letting it all hang out like my dad used to say. Hitting all these crazy moves, hitting the Code Red. I was just loving every moment of it.” [H/T: wrestlingnews.co]
Matt Hardy also stepped in and expressed that he was glad John Cena was able to finish his career the way he wanted. He mentioned that they were colleagues at the beginning, had fun with the road trips and declared Cena the GOAT for his loyalty towards WWE.
John Cena and Jeff Hardy were both top WWE stars. Even though they never had a long singles rivalry, fans may remember that they faced each other in a singles match on WWE RAW on June 2, 2008. Apart from that match, the two also teamed up in tag team action several times.
