Mickey Rourke, the star of the critically acclaimed 2008 sports drama film, The Wrestler, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to prevent eviction from his home.
Entering the movie industry in 1979, Mickey Rourke rose to prominence through films like Body Heat (1981), Diner (1982), Rumble Fish (1983), 9½ Weeks (1986), Angel Heart (1987), and Barfly (1987). His career stalled in the early 1990s when he decided to pursue professional boxing.
He had a good comeback with Sin City (2005) before his portrayal of Randy “The Ram” Robinson in The Wrestler (2008) earned him a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination. Apart from starring in blockbusters like Iron Man 2 and The Expendables in 2010, Mickey Rourke has mostly appeared in independent and direct-to-video productions.
The Fundraiser Intends To Help Mickey Rourke Stay In His House & Help Him Get Back On His Feet
Now, coupled with health challenges and financial strain, Rourke is facing eviction from his home. Liya-Joelle Jones, the assistant to Kimberly Hines, Rourke’s manager, has launched a GoFundMe campaign with the 73-year-old actor’s full permission to help him stay in his home.
A part of the description reads:
“Today, Mickey is facing a very real and urgent situation: the threat of eviction from his home. This fundraiser is being created with Mickey’s full permission to help cover immediate housing-related expenses and prevent that from happening.
“Mickey Rourke is an icon—but his trajectory, as painful as it is, is also a deeply human one. It is the story of someone who gave everything to his work, took real risks, and paid real costs. Fame does not protect against hardship, and talent does not guarantee stability. What remains is a person who deserves dignity, housing, and the chance to regain his footing. The goal is simple: to give Mickey stability and peace of mind during an extremely stressful time—so he can stay in his home and have the space to get back on his feet.”
The campaign has raised $77,570 out of the intended $100,000 so far. Chris Jericho, with whom Mickey Rourke had a brief feud in WWE in 2009, has also donated $1,000.
