Stone Cold Steve Austin shares his honest opinion on John Cena‘s heel turn last year.
During his appearance in the latest episode of the INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin was asked how he felt about John Cena’s heel run in the first half of 2025. The Texas Rattlesnake simply noted that it was “okay,” saying that the heel turn came a bit too late.
“Everybody, well, not everybody, a lot of people wanted to see at least one John Cena heel turn in his run. It was okay. I like him better as a babyface. I wanted to see him as a heel at some point during his career. The way that it was done, and I’m not knocking booking, just like, ‘Man, this far in? Forget about it! Just let him do his thing. Kids love that guy.’
When Chris Van Vliet noted that the original plan was for John Cena to turn heel before his first match against The Rock at WrestleMania 28, Stone Cold Steve Austin brushed it off as speculation. However, he did note that Cena could’ve pulled it off at that point.
“Hmmm, speculation. Hey man, but if anybody could’ve done it, and maybe you are correct with the timeline, with an opponent like The Rock, he could’ve, possibly,” Steve Austin said.
Speaking in the same interview, Steve Austin also commented on having one more match in WWE, and also reacted to rumors that he quit drinking beer.
