WWE’s CM Punk Comments On New Movie Addressing Systemic Racism

CM Punk highlights the themes that his new horror movie addresses.

Punk stars in Night Patrol, an action horror movie that sees residents of a Los Angeles housing project battle a group of vampire cops. The movie uses horror as a way to also address racism and other societal issues that Americans face in their lives.

CM Punk told Big Gold Belt Media’s Nagier Chambers that there are a lot of messages in Night Patrol. However, the biggest one might be the relationship between the police and civilians.

“I think it’s pretty obvious, you know? We’re talking about systemic racism. This movie talks about different cultures converging and trying to preserve different cultures, how different cultures go about that,” CM Punk explained. “We’re talking about the people versus the government. We’re talking about Crips versus Bloods, cops versus gangs, the gang within the gang of police. There’s a lot going on.

“I think the biggest thing, more importantly, that this movie explores, is the relationship between law enforcement authority, government and the people.”

Night Patrol is in theatres on January 16. During a recent interview with WrestleZone, Night Patrol director Ryan Prows praised Punk for how committed he was to his role. Prows noted that Punk was a pleasure to work with. He also teased that his character did many things that you wouldn’t see from Punk on WWE TV.
