Emoji Update Could Be Huge For WWE Legend Rob Van Dam

WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam should be happy with a rumored emoji update.

According to MacRumors (via Emojipedia), nine new emojis have been proposed for part of a 2026 update. If approved, the update would see the following additions added to the extensive emoji library:

  • A smiley face with squinting eyes
  • A leftward thumb sign gesture
  • A rightward thumb sign gesture
  • A monarch butterfly
  • A pickle
  • A lighthouse
  • A meteor
  • An eraser, for removing pencil markings from paper
  • A net with a handle, like those used to catch bugs

The leftward and rightward thumb sign gestures will be familiar to WWE fans, as they’re part of Rob Van Dam‘s signature in-ring taunt.

When would the emojis be released?

The emojis were recently uploaded to Unicode’s public document archives for review as part of September 2026’s Emoji 18.0 release. Despite that, it’s worth noting that all of the proposed emojis (and variants) are currently draft candidates for Emoji 18.0 and remain subject to change.

Unicode will conduct more reviews of the emoji candidates through September, meaning some might not advance to the final approval list. After Unicode approves the draft emojis, individual emoji vendors like Apple and Google must design and implement their own versions of each concept, which could result in more delays.

Rob Van Dam was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2021. RVD recently spoke with GamesHub and said that he thinks Paul is exceptional, but he wouldn’t consider him to be a real wrestler. RVD went as far as saying that Paul wouldn’t have survived wrestling during his era.
