R-Truth had an insane storyline pitch while meeting John Cena Sr.
The former 24/7 Champion appeared in the second season of WWE: Unreal. The second episode captured Truth’s heartbreaking release from the company in early 2025, followed by his triumphant return under a new persona.
At one point during the second episode, R-Truth revealed that he approached John Cena’s father at his album watch party with an idea about being his long-lost son.
“I had an idea where I would come down here and you pretend I was your son that had ran away,” Truth told John Cena Sr. [H/T: Fightful]
Much to Truth’s delight, Cena Sr. was on board with the pitch and even agreed to ask his son about the possibility of bringing the idea to life.
R-Truth and John Cena crossed paths for the final time during Cena’s retirement tour last year. Truth faced Cena on two separate occasions in 2025, with the first encounter taking place at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event in May. While the SNME match ended in Cena’s favor, the second bout concluded with a disqualification victory for Truth.
Elsewhere in the docuseries, R-Truth joked that Ron Cena is actually John Cena’s brother, referencing 23andMe, a company that analyzes ancestry and genetic relationships.
