Former WWE star Maven explained why stepping into the ring with Triple H felt like the biggest test of his career.
Maven shared his thoughts in a recent video on his YouTube channel. In the video, titled “Wrestlers I Hated Working With,” Maven listed several names he struggled with in the ring for different reasons.
He named Raven, Jeff Hardy, Rico Constantino, Scott Steiner, Lance Storm, Kurt Angle and more. When talking about Triple H, he said wrestling him felt like taking a final test.
“Being in the ring with Hunter was like taking an ultimate exam. Success meant your career would skyrocket, and failure could lead to losing your career altogether.”
He continued, “Triple H was a wrestler, he’s ‘one of the boys’ backstage, but he’s also Vince’s son-in-law and held a lot of power in that company. Impress him, sky’s the limit. Think of Randy Orton, Batista. Fail him, think of, well, me. Aside from the backstage power, there was truly no one better in the ring than Hunter, making a match with him even more intimidating.”
He admitted that failing to impress him, on the other hand, could stall or even derail a career. He said, “But in saying that, Triple H was also one of my favorite opponents. Knowing what was at stake for my career if I impressed him, but also knowing that he was truly one of the best in the game. Still though, every time I wrestled Triple H, I walked around the entire day with a pit in my stomach.” [H/T: Wrestletalk]
