AEW’s MJF Says Disney And Wrestling Have Many Surprising Similarities

Professional wrestling is just like Disney, according to MJF.

As All Elite Wrestling looks to attract new fans, AEW World Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman made a pitch to existing fans of Disney, noting that both worlds are strikingly similar.

“I find that professional wrestling and Disney specifically have so much in common,” he told WDW News Today. “And what it has in common is, it has a way of grabbing you through story. It has a way of grabbing you through emotion, and it has a way of capturing your imagination and making you feel like you’re in an entirely different universe and world. Nobody’s better at that than me. That’s why I’m the world champion, and that’s why I’m here.”

MJF says Disney isn’t as ‘fake’ as some criticize wrestling as being

In further assessing the similarities between the two, MJF highlighted the notion that wrestling is fake, which he emphasized as not actually being the case. Through that lens, though, he pointed out that the same can be said for Disney films and television shows.

“It’s not fake at all, but let’s pretend it is for five seconds,” he said. “It’s fake, so is movies, so is TV, so is comic books, all the things that I know you love. For example, I was talking to these guys about Splash Mountain before we went on the air here. Is Br’er Rabbit really in trouble? No. They’re animatronic robots, right? But do you feel it in that moment? And as you’re going up that lift hill and you’re thinking to yourself, ‘Is this the one or is this the big drop? I don’t know. Ah, oh, it wasn’t. Okay, we’re fine. We’re breathing.’ Those same emotions come from professional wrestling. “

Much like the famous rides at Disney World, MJF says that professional wrestling also leaves its fans wanting more. As such, he encourages those who enjoy the aspects of Disney to tune into and give AEW programming a chance.

“Have I’ve been on all those rides a million times? Yes. Do I get the same amount of excitement as I did the first time I was on it each time I go on it? Now, I know everybody’s different, but my answer is yes,” he said, “because it’s a slightly different experience every time. You notice a little thing perhaps you didn’t notice the last time you were on the ride.”
