Is Logan Paul ripping off aspects of his WWE gimmick from an independent wrestler?
Recently, we’ve seen Logan Paul “mic’d up” on WWE programming. While a lot of people have credited the social media star for thinking outside the box. It now seemingly appears that he came up with the idea from a wrestler working on the independent scene.
Independent wrestler Jose Zamora took to social media to call out Logan Paul for stealing his “mic’d up” gimmick, and gave pretty substantive proof that Paul and his team got the idea from him, giving the following statement on the matter:
“So Logan Paul did the mic’d up wrestling gimmick on WWE TV, which is something that I’ve been doing for the past year and a half on the independent scene,” Jose Zamora said. “I do it in every single match. And I’m even in the process of getting it trademarked.
“Very randomly, I just want to show a side-by-side comparison of the captions. I want to show this picture of his videographer liking my videos and then commenting this on Logan’s mic’d up post, and I want to show the comment that a wrestler made to the videographer, which he ended up liking. On top of that, I’d like to mention that the last video that I made was me announcing that I’m going to be out for five months with a shoulder injury that will require surgery to fix.
“And listen straight up, right? I think the easy way out in all of this would be to stand here, look at the camera, and just complain and insult Logan. And obviously, I’m making this video because some people are commenting under his post that it’s an incredibly unique and like sick idea. But the truth is, I don’t want to insult Logan. That is not the type of person that I am.
“That is not how I want to garner mainstream success. That’s the easy way out. That’s what everybody does. Because at the end of the day, a microphone doesn’t define who I am. This defines who I am, yo, soy de San Juan, Puerto Rico, yo, soy Latino. So what does that mean? It means that it doesn’t matter if it’s a hurricane or an earthquake or an island-wide power outage, and now a famous, celebrity, multi-millionaire.
“Being from Puerto Rico means that, at heart, I am a fighter. So life has thrown adversity at me, but it is my job to keep fighting, to keep moving forward, and to do it with a smile on my face. So this is what’s going to happen. I’m going to get my surgery next week, Thursday, January 29 I’m going to be out for five months, and once I come back, I will come back with the goal of becoming the biggest star in professional wrestling, because I want to be able to say that the biggest star in professional wrestling, Ed de San Juan, Puerto Rico el Latino.
“That is my goal. That is my purpose. And I am incredibly confident in both my wrestling abilities and my creative capabilities to do so. So to the people that have loved and watched and supported my videos. I love you so much. This is only the beginning, because I am the spotlight. I am the first mic’d up wrestler in the world. But more importantly, I am Jose Zamora.”
