What is Triple H‘s favorite WWE Royal Rumble memory of all time?
WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H was a recent guest on ESPN’s Get Up to promote this weekend’s Royal Rumble event. While discussing Royal Rumble moments, Hunter revealed his favorite Rumble moment was Shawn Michaels “skinning the cat” to win the 1995 Rumble match.
“It’s funny and it’s for everybody, I think is one of the classic moments,” Triple H began. “It’s Shawn Michaels in 95, I believe it is, hanging over the top rope sort of with one arm balancing himself and his feet not touching the ground.
“Davey Boy thinking he won, but it was the first time that we had seen anybody do that close of an elimination where they were just hanging by the skin of their teeth, and the drama of it, you could just feel that craziness and that emotion. Shawn was able to what we call ‘skin the cat’ back into the ring and win the Royal Rumble and go on to become champion at WrestleMania.” [H/T: Fightful]
The most hilarious thing about this statement is that Triple H is wrong. Shawn Michaels did not go on to win the title at WrestleMania that year as he lost his match against Diesel. However, Michaels would become WWE Champion for the first time the following year at WrestleMania 12.
