Kevin Nash Criticizes WWE Rising Star’s Character Despite Growing Popularity

Kevin Nash isn’t shy about sharing his thoughts on today’s WWE product, and this week he turned his attention to one of Raw’s fastest-rising names.

While the Hall of Famer praised the young stars’ in-ring ability, his comments about their character presentation quickly became the bigger talking point.

Speaking on his Kliq This podcast, Kevin Nash reviewed Je’Von Evans following the 21-year-old’s recent call-up to Raw. Evans generated major buzz after hitting a flying OG Cutter on last week’s show — a moment that lit up social media and positioned him as one of WWE’s most exciting young talents.

Nash gave credit where it was due. He called Evans “an incredible athlete” and acknowledged his ability to strike and throw convincing punches. However, he questioned whether the presentation matches the potential.

Kevin Nash Questions Je’Von Evans’ Edge on WWE Raw

Nash suggested Evans needs more grit in his character work, stating, “He’s a little bit too f***ing Mr. Bojangles for me. I wish he was a little bit more urban.” He added that he understands WWE’s broader audience in the Netflix era but wants to see “a little bit of an edge.”

Beyond the phrasing that has drawn criticism online, Nash’s core advice focused on realism. He encouraged Evans to slow down and lean into his striking ability. “Take your time and throw a good punch. Maybe put two or three together,” Nash said, arguing that Evans should make fans believe his athleticism could translate in a real fight.

Evans, the youngest member of the Raw roster, is currently scheduled to compete in an Elimination Chamber qualifying match against Gunther and Dominik Mysterio. The winner advances to the Feb. 28 PLE, with a WrestleMania world title opportunity on the line.

For now, the Young OG continues to build momentum. Whether he adds more “edge” or stays true to his current style, Evans is clearly on WWE’s radar — and now, Kevin Nash’s as well.
