Ronda Rousey is stepping back into the cage.
Rousey retired from MMA competition after a December 2016 TKO loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207. Now, nearly ten years later, Ronda Rousey is set to fight again, as ESPN’s Andreas Hale is reporting that she will fight Gina Carano on May 16 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.
Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions is promoting the fight, which will be streamed live on Netflix. Rousey and Carano will compete at 145 pounds, and the fight will be contested over five, 5-minute rounds using 4-ounce gloves. One major difference is that the fight will be inside a hexagon cage, as opposed to the octagon that fans are used to seeing Rousey compete in.
“Been waiting so long to announce this: Me and Gina Carano are gonna throw down in the biggest super fight in women’s combat sport history!” Rousey said to ESPN. “And we’re partnering with the fighter-first promotion MVP as well as the biggest and baddest streamer on the planet Netflix. This is for all MMA fans past, present and future. More to come… much more.”
Netflix has confirmed the fight, posting the following hype video for the contest:
Ronda Rousey also had an impressive run in WWE
After retiring from UFC, Ronda Rousey joined WWE in 2018. There, she was a three-time Women’s World Champion and a one-time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion (with Shayna Baszler). Rousey also won the 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble and became WWE’s eighth Women’s Triple Crown Champion.
Rousey left WWE in 2023, claiming she had retired. While promoting her first autobiography, Rousey said she left due to criticism of how Vince McMahon ran the company, and because of the concussions she had sustained as an MMA fighter. Rousey competed in three matches since leaving WWE. Two of those were unannounced independent bouts, and a third was for Ring Of Honor. In September 2025, Rousey once again said she was retired from pro wrestling.
