AEW Dynamite on February 18 closed with a decisive main event victory for Swerve Strickland over Kenny Omega — but it was what happened after the bell that shifted the landscape.
The bout between “The Best Bout Machine” and Strickland delivered from the opening lockup. Slaps were traded early, tempers flared, and the action quickly spilled to the outside. Omega landed a moonsault from the barricade, while Strickland answered with power slams and a 450 splash that nearly sealed it.
Momentum swung back and forth like a V-Trigger in mid-air. Omega connected with snap dragon suplexes and knee strikes, while Strickland countered a One-Winged Angel attempt and drilled Omega with House Call.
After referee Aubrey Edwards was inadvertently taken out, chaos followed. Swerve Strickland capitalized with Big Pressure to secure the pinfall.
Swerve Strickland Sends Brutal Message After Omega Win
The victory alone was a statement enough. However, Strickland made it clear he wasn’t done.
Moments after the three-count, he shoved the referee aside and resumed the assault. Taking a chain from Prince Nana, Strickland wrapped it around Omega’s neck and hung him over the ropes. He then cleared the announce desk for his next decisive move. Strickland dragged Omega onto the steel steps and delivered a devastating move that sent Omega crashing through the desk.
Standing over the wreckage, Strickland told the camera, “I needed this… I needed this.”
The outburst signals a full return to his ruthless edge. After a complex period that saw him align with “Hangman” Adam Page against common enemies, the partnership had recorded visible strain. Now, with this post-match attack, Strickland appears to have snapped back into his Mogul roots — no allies, no apologies.
With AEW Revolution set for March 15 and the world title picture heating up, Strickland’s timing is unlikely to be accidental. If this is Phase 3, as he has hinted in recent interviews, it began with Omega paying the price.
