A new report says WWE’s blackout rule from WrestleMania 42 is now reportedly hitting Elimination Chamber in Chicago.
A recent report claimed that WWE told several Las Vegas establishments they could not broadcast WrestleMania. The company introduced a new protocol and enforced it strictly. The venues usually pay a licensing fee to air the event, but WWE changed the rules this time.
The new restriction blocks businesses within 50 miles of Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas from showing the show. Many believe WWE did this to boost ticket sales for WrestleMania 42. Now, according to Fightful Select, the same thing is happening ahead of Elimination Chamber in Chicago, Illinois.
WWE is reportedly blocking local watch parties in the Chicago area
Fightful (via Fightful Select) reports that several watch parties in the Chicago area cannot show Elimination Chamber. WWE is stopping them under the same blackout policy for Elimination Chamber. The company is applying the rule just like it did with WrestleMania. Officials reportedly want fans to attend the event in person. They do not want them watching it at nearby venues.
WWE WrestleMania 42 restrictions upset many business owners. Several had already finalized plans for watch parties. Some had signed agreements. Others had promoted the event in advance. Then the restrictions changed everything.
It has not been confirmed if Chicago businesses have raised similar complaints. Still, many establishments could face the same issues. It also remains unclear if the Elimination Chamber blackout uses the same 50-mile radius as WrestleMania 42.
With WrestleMania season in full swing and Elimination Chamber approaching, WWE’s new blackout strategy is already sparking debate among fans and local businesses alike.
