Trick Williams has garnered a reputation for his smooth talking ability in WWE, but when it came to romance, he didn’t quite nail his first promo. Williams recently revealed that he had an awkward moment at the WWE Performance Center with Lash Legend.
Williams and Legend are one of WWE’s real-life couples. They got engaged in November 2025 when Williams proposed in front of their families during Thanksgiving. Both are now doing well on SmackDown after spending nearly four years developing in NXT.
Williams is preparing for his first Men’s Elimination Chamber match, and Lash recently impressed with her Women’s Royal Rumble. But their relationship didn’t get off to a good start.
Trick Williams’ Early Attempt To Shoot His Shot With Lash Legend Didn’t Go As Planned
In an interview with SPORTbible during a game of “Agree to Disagree,” they were asked who made the first move. Trick Williams quickly admitted it was him, and that it didn’t go as planned.
He joked that the WWE Performance Center felt like “Love Island” because everyone was gossiping about who might be dating. At the time, both he and Legend were focused on their careers, but rumors started spreading that they were secretly talking.
“There was a time.. at the Performance Center, aka Love Island, where you know Trick Willy was being accused of you know trying to talk to Lash Legend on the low. It wasn’t none of that, we were both doing our own thing at the time. Before I knew it, everybody was coming up to me like, ‘Man, are y’all talking? Are y’all talking? Have y’all got this going on?’(I said) ‘Nah man.’ But I did kind of like her at the time. So it was kind of little iggy for me to go pop off and do my thing,” Williams said.
All the outside chatter made the situation more awkward and added pressure. Then one day, he decided to go for it. He saw Lash getting out of her Mercedes-Benz and thought it was now or never. He believed he had prepared a perfect speech ready in his head. But when he walked up to her, his confidence disappeared.
“I was like, ‘So, yo Lash, I don’t know if everybody else saying, but you and me…together good…’ And then she friend-zoned me so quick. She was like, ‘Yeah, I heard people saying that, but nah you my homie for real,” Williams said.
It didn’t work.
According to Williams, Lash Legend quickly put him in the friend zone. She told him she had heard the rumors too, but she saw him as just a friend.
However, what started as an awkward attempt eventually turned into a real relationship.
