WATCH: WWE Teases Callback to CM Punk’s Infamous 2011 Pipebomb on RAW

WWE might be mixing the past with the present again. On the March 2, 2026, episode of WWE RAW, a teaser aired. The teaser emerged as a callback to the famous, or rather, infamous 2011 Pipebomb promo by CM Punk.

For fans who may not know, the “Pipebomb” was a promo Punk delivered on the June 27, 2011, episode of Raw in Las Vegas.

Sitting cross-legged at the top of the ramp, Punk ranted his real-life frustration with WWE’s storyline. At the time, his contract had come close to expiry, and he had set up a clash with John Cena for the WWE Championship at Money in the Bank.

In the promo, Punk called himself “the best in the world.” He criticized WWE management and took direct shots at Vince McMahon and accused him of surrounding himself with “yes men.” He even mentioned other wrestling promotions and prohibited topics like Ring of Honor, NJPW, Paul Heyman, and Brock Lesnar. These things were rarely talked about on WWE TV back then.

The promo ended abruptly when his microphone was cut off while he was criticizing WWE’s “anti-bullying” campaign. Such a never-seen-before promo became one of the most talked-about scenes in modern wrestling. It led to the “Summer of Punk,” where he beat John Cena and briefly left WWE with the championship.

CM Punk’s Iconic Pipebomb Gets Modern Callback On RAW

Now, during this week’s RAW, a glitch-styled video showing CM Punk played on screen. It started with present-day Punk, wearing the same black “Straight Edge” shirt, white wrist tape, and the same look, but this time holding the World Heavyweight Championship, and then smoothly shifted to old footage from his “Pipebomb” promo. “I have a lot of things that I wanna get off my chest,” Punk said in the video, just like he said in 2011.

Punk was sitting cross-legged just like he did in 2011. But instead of complaining about the company, he was holding the world title he once said he deserved.

The teaser came after Punk successfully defended his title against Finn Bálor at Elimination Chamber.

Moreover, last month, Punk had donned the same gear during a WWE 2K26 promo, calling it “CM Punk Week” and joking that he had taken over WWE Games’ social media.

Now, the “Pipebomb” callback teaser at RAW might be something related to the WWE 2K26 promo. Or it could be used to build hype for his road to WrestleMania, where he faces Roman Reigns to defend his title.
