Booker T Calls Out Wrestlers Risking Their Safety for Viral Moments

Making different wrestling spots viral on social media has been one of the main targets of pro wrestlers and promotions lately, and it seems like WWE Hall of Famer Booker T is not a big fan of it.

A risky balcony powerbomb at KHAO Wrestling’s Volume 1 event on March 1 got everyone talking. The moment happened when Cory Zero was facing Thiago Montero in the first round of the KHAO Title Tournament. During the match, they fought their way up to a second-story balcony.

Montero then powerbombed Zero over the railing, and she crashed down onto a group of wrestlers waiting below.

The video quickly went viral after Zero shared it online. Things got even more intense when Zero posted that she was “currently hospitalized” because of the stunt. It initiated a storm of reactions and criticism on social media.

However, it was revealed later that the hospitalization claim was part of the storyline. Reports said Zero was not seriously hurt, safety measures were in place, and the idea for the stunt actually came from the wrestlers themselves.

Booker T Reacts to Balcony Powerbomb Spot on Indie Show

But before that clarification came out, Booker T shared his thoughts on his Hall of Fame podcast. The WWE Hall of Famer was not happy. He criticized the balcony powerbomb, thinking the injury was real.

“Independent wrestling is something that’s near and dear to my heart. And I saw over the weekend, a female by the name of Zero. She took a power bomb off the balcony to the floor, and it was a few guys down there to catch her. But literally, she was on the balcony, power bombed all the way to the floor, and she ended up going to the hospital. Just remember, D’Lo Brown gave Droz a power bomb, and it was in the ring, and Droz broke his neck, never to walk again,” Booker T said.

He said the move is already dangerous inside the ring, let alone from a high platform.

“A move like that is dangerous just on its own in the middle of the ring. But to do it from the balcony is just negligent on the promoter’s part.”

The two-time Hall of Famer made it clear he would never approve something like that if he were in charge. He said promoters are responsible for protecting young talent, especially when they are trying to stand out.

“It’s no wrestler going to come to me and we’re working in that setting and say, ‘Hey Book, can I do a power bomb off the balcony?’ And I approve of it. So I put that the onus all on the promoters and the guys who’s running shows like that, putting these young talent in danger, putting their careers in danger and their future in danger before they ever have a chance at actually ever making it to the next level,” Booker added.

He even pointed out that the lift didn’t look very stable. “The guy could actually barely pick her up for the power bomb. It was bad, it was all across the board,” Booker said.

Now that it’s clear the hospitalization was part of the show, the conversation has shifted a bit. However, Booker’s reaction highlights the thin line between putting on an exciting show and taking unnecessary risks.
