Aleister Black has hinted that his rivalry with Randy Orton may continue, even though Orton already has his plans set for WrestleMania 42.
Last month, Black and Orton turned their long-discussed dream match into one of the biggest storylines on WWE SmackDown. On the February 20 edition of WWE SmackDown, a moment between them quickly went viral when Black sat in his signature cross-legged pose while Orton dropped into his famous Viper stance.
The match also saw Black score a huge win after interference from Drew McIntyre. Despite that loss, Orton said last week that even if he won the WWE Elimination Chamber, he would still come after Black.
Orton eventually won the Elimination Chamber match and secured his spot at WrestleMania 42. However, Black believes their rivalry may only be getting started.
Aleister Black Says His Match With Randy Orton Could Be “The First Button”
Speaking in an interview with Forbes, Black suggested that their recent match could be the beginning of a longer feud. “This was the first button of what should be a lot more. Obviously, you never know, because the things in our industry change so quickly.”
He pointed to the strong fan reaction and viral clips from their match as proof that people want to see more of the rivalry.
“There’s such a style contrast, and I think that’s what captivated people a lot, where with myself I think forever I’ll be seen as this guy from NXT, where he made his name in the WWE, and rose through the ranks.”
“Orton being a generational wrestler coming from a third generation himself, and having made such a name for himself at a young age, still being at the highest echelon in a completely different style and a different era being brought up.”
“These two things are being put together almost at the right time, because obviously I’m seasoned enough to garner my skill to match that of his, and he is who he is,” Black continued to say. “I think for a lot of people, it was just like this can be very interesting in terms of the styles, and obviously with the verbiage being spoken and the insinuation of a possibility of a Randy Orton that we all once very much feared — right on top of the Randy Orton that everybody already normally fears – throw back to the 2009 era if I can play my cards right.”
