Tension has been growing between Cody Rhodes and Sami Zayn over the past few weeks. Their rivalry intensified after Rhodes pinned Zayn in an WWE Elimination Chamber qualifier. The finish came after Drew McIntyre distracted Zayn, allowing Rhodes to take advantage and secure the win.
Since then, Zayn has criticized Rhodes and called him a privileged golden boy who benefits from opportunities others do not get. Rhodes, on the other hand, argued that Zayn sometimes misses championship opportunities because he is not ruthless enough.
Last week, the tension increased even more when Zayn confronted Rhodes and questioned why Rhodes received another chance at the WWE Championship after losing at Elimination Chamber. Despite the issues between them, Rhodes still had high praise for Zayn.

During an appearance on Complex Graps, Rhodes talked about his road to WrestleMania and addressed his situation with Zayn. “Sami is legit magical. I feel like I watch moments. Wrestlers are all… everything revolves around me, the world and your emotions and all the efforts you put in and your sacrifices. So it can be very selfish in its thoughts. And lately I’ve felt just kind of look at the lay of the land.”
“I always look at it too lately from the perspective of, I wonder if I was planning this show, what would I do or who would I really like or who could I count on? Man, he’s special. He’s just… he’s still the way he wrestles his matches and even when a crowd is a little subdued for the moment or if they’re redirect, I don’t know. He’s very good.”
