WWE says Tamyra Mensah-Stock is still with the company, despite a confusing post that hinted at her release.
On Thursday, Stock, aka WWE NXT’s Tyra Mae Steele, shared the following message on Twitter/X, writing that WWE released her this week. According to Stock, she was informed that she was being let go due to returning to Olympic wrestling over the weekend without informing WWE of her plans.
“On a weekend off working for WWE, I went back to Olympic wrestling, won gold at Worlds, prize purse was $350000,” Mensah-Stock wrote on Twitter/X. “Tried to go back to WWE that Monday. They moved me up to Raw, just to tell me they had to let me go bc I went behind their back….”
Stock’s post included a poll that asked if her situation was a dream or a nightmare. As it turns out, it was actually a dream she had.
According to a new update from Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp and Sports Illustrated’s Jon Alba, Mensah-Stock has not been released. WWE sources confirmed she was still under contract, and she was quite literally tweeting about a dream she had, calling it a misunderstanding.
Tamyra Mensah-Stock won the gold medal in the women’s wrestling freestyle category at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. She is the first Black woman ever to accomplish the feat.
Tyra Mae Steele won season one of WWE LFG and recently competed on WWE NXT and WWE EVOLVE. Her most recent match aired on Wednesday night, a loss to Kendal Grey, who was called up to the NXT roster. As a result of her call-up, Grey vacated the title after the match aired.
