MJF’s growing list of challengers took a sharp turn on the March 18 episode of AEW Dynamite, as the AEW World Champion made a calculated move behind the scenes. This move could reshape the road to his next defense.
The development came shortly after Darby Allin inserted himself into the title picture following his Coffin Match victory earlier in the night.
While the focus seemed to be on who would step up next, MJF appeared more interested in who could be taken out before they even got there.
MJF puts a target on the back of Darby Allin via Andrade El Idolo
Backstage, Andrade El Idolo was speaking with Renee Paquette about his own championship ambitions following his win over Bandido at Revolution. However, that momentum was interrupted when a silver briefcase — sent by MJF through an associate — was presented to him.
At first, Andrade showed little interest. After all, accepting the offer meant going after Darby Allin. This removes a direct obstacle who is also a fellow contender in the same title race.
The situation quickly turned into a classic case of “every man for himself,” with the briefcase acting like a golden shortcut… or a loaded trap.
Don Callis then entered the conversation via FaceTime. He urged Andrade to accept the deal on behalf of the Don Callis Family. Callis framed it as business. He explained that Allin had become a “problem” for MJF and that removing him would come with a significant payday.
Despite the clear conflict of interest, Andrade ultimately agreed — albeit reluctantly — aligning himself, at least temporarily, with MJF’s agenda. It’s a move that puts Andrade in a tough spot.
With Allin gaining momentum and multiple contenders circling the title, this decision adds another layer to an already crowded main event picture.
If Andrade follows through, it won’t just be about climbing the ladder. It’ll be about deciding whether to kick it out from under someone else first.
For now, MJF isn’t just defending his title — he’s playing defense in a different way, one payoff at a time.
