Booker T has made it very clear that the recent WWE NXT “Appreciation Night” for him had nothing to do with any criticism or awards. Even though some have felt that it is linked to the 2025 Wrestling Observer Awards, Booker has completely denied that idea.
The talk started after Booker T became the recipient of the 2025 “Worst Television Announcer” award for his work on WWE NXT. The outcome led to a lot of debate. Moreover, many big names from the wrestling community came in Booker’s support and criticized Dave Meltzer.
Booker T denies NXT Appreciation Night was a response to Observer award
Booker T recently appeared on the Hall of Fame podcast. Bryan Alvarez of Figure Four Weekly showed him a clip and suggested that the Appreciation Night was WWE’s way of responding to the WON Award, and he thought it could be a part of a storyline.
Booker quickly shut that idea down. He called it “the dumbest thing” he had heard and said the connection between the tribute and the awards was “ridiculous.”
“That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard of. Somebody’s thinking about the wrestling observer and Booker T-Day being somehow connected. That’s ridiculous,” Booker said.
The Hall of Famer also pointed out a flaw in that argument. He mentioned Triple H and said people can’t keep changing their opinions depending on the situation.
“You can’t have it both ways. Alright. One day, Triple H wants to bury me in the ground, and now, the next day, he wants to put me over like I’m the best thing in the world. Those two just don’t go together. Alright…So either that night was real, or it wasn’t,” Booker T added.
He said the event was about celebrating his career and his impact on others in the industry. It was about giving him respect while he is still around to enjoy it, not about responding to negative opinions.
