AEW Star Is Happy To Put Past Controversy Behind Her And Keep Building

Maya World wants to move on from the past and keep building on what she and Hyan have done together in AEW.

Former WWE Superstar Nixon Newell and Miranda Alize made headlines after leaving a November 2025 AEW Collision taping due to a reported disagreement. According to reports, the pair left the taping because they requested more time for their match, which was only scheduled for three minutes.

After Newell and Alize elected not to compete, AEW brought in Maya World and Hyan as a substitute team. A month later, AEW signed World and Hyan to contracts, and they’ve built momentum in recent weeks on AEW Collision and in Ring of Honor.

During a recent interview with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard, World spoke about how she’s always seen herself joining AEW, and is proud of making the most of the opportunity she was given. World agreed that she’s glad to move on from being linked to the issues with Newell and Alize. Now, she wants to keep building on what she’s done in the company so far.

Maya World says being thrown together with Hyan has been a huge benefit

“Yeah, Hyan and I kind of got thrown together on that show, but like you said, it ended up benefiting us more than we thought. We’ve done so much extra work backstage and in matches on Ring of Honor and AEW. But this time felt different. It was just us stepping up to an opportunity, which is something we always do,” Maya World explained. “We both work super hard, so it was the right place at the right time. I also believed in both of us and our abilities. I knew we were probably going to be signed eventually, no matter where. Thankfully, it was with All Elite Wrestling.

“I never felt pressure to prove myself that night. I’ve always felt like I deserved to be here, and that mindset has guided me through this experience,” she continued. “Speaking for myself, it was a big moment because I’ve been working toward this for the past three years. AEW has been my goal from the start. I love how unique it is, how they operate, and the level of talent backstage. I’ve always wanted to face people like Kris [Statlander] or Toni [Storm]. And now I get to wrestle these amazing women and show what I can do. I’m just ready to keep building on that.”

At the time, Newell said that “there were no negative feelings on either side” between herself, Alize and AEW. She also said that she doesn’t have any ill will toward Hyan and Maya World, who recently feuded with Athena over the ROH Women’s World Championship.
