AEW Star Thekla Reacts To Luna Vachon Comparisons

AEW Women’s World Champion Thekla has heard the comparisons to Luna Vachon, and recently responded.

Following her retention of the title at AEW Double or Nothing, Thekla was asked about her face paint at the post-show conference. The paint was similar to that of the late WWE Hall of Famer.

Thekla said the paint wasn’t a purposeful nod to the legend, but isn’t upset by the comparison at all.

“That was not on purpose. I’ve heard that comparison a lot, and I love it. I’ve never not liked hearing that. Every time someone says, ‘She’s the new Luna Vachon.’ I go, ‘Yeah.’ That’s cool. I love being the reincarnation, to some extent, of Luna because she was a badass,” she said.

For Thekla, having a career similar to Vachon would be a huge accomplishment. Vachon began wrestling in the 1980s, and came to fame during her time in WWF. She only wrestled with the company for a year before moving on to the independent circuit, where she won a number of titles.

In 1997, she returned to WWF for a three-year stint. Throughout her career, she held a number of titles, and was posthumously inducted into WWE’s Hall of Fame in 2019, following her death in 2010.
