The story around Samoa Joe’s famous 2007 “shoot” promo about Scott Hall has come up again, with Kevin Nash now sharing a more thoughtful view on what happened.
This all goes back to TNA’s Turning Point PPV in December 2007. Hall was supposed to be in a six-man tag match, but didn’t show up. One of the reasons given was “food poisoning,” but many people backstage didn’t believe it.
With things falling apart, Samoa Joe was sent out to speak to the crowd live. Joe was frustrated and called out Hall for missing the show. He also spoke about how some wrestlers worked hard while others didn’t. The promo got even more intense when he directly insulted Hall.
“So, I’ll tell you what, Scott Hall. Chico, kiss my ass. You punked out, and you’re a punk,” Joe said.
Kevin Nash was in the ring during this and didn’t look happy. Things got worse backstage when Nash found out the promo wasn’t planned. On his Kliq This podcast, Nash later said he confronted Joe right after.
Kevin Nash asked Joe whether those lines came from Vince Russo or were his own. When Joe said it was his idea, Nash reacted by slapping him. At that time, Nash was upset not just because the promo wasn’t planned, but also because Hall was his close friend.

Now, years later, the topic came up again on X when a user named CriticCat criticized Samoa Joe for taking shots at Hall while he was dealing with alcoholism and called it “cowardly” and “cheap.”
They even tagged Nash and tweeted, “I think @RealKevinNash would agree and back this up too. If someone no showed because of depression would Joe have done the same thing? Chances are Hall drank because of depression too. Overall unprofessional and I hope Joe learned from it.”
But Nash gave a very different response. He tweeted, “Joe’s a great guy. He was disappointed more than angry. I think in the long run, it solidified the friendship Joe and I have for each other. He’s one of my favorite people in wrestling.”
Joe has also spoken about this in recent years, including on Kurt Angle’s podcast. He admitted that his thinking has changed now. The AEW star explained that he was just trying to keep the show interesting for fans, not personally attack Hall. But later, he realized his words had a bigger effect than he expected.
