Bayley is known for her cheerful and friendly personality. But that was not always the case. She recently shared a funny story involving Carmella from her early days in WWE NXT. It showed a totally different side of her, so much so that it even surprised other wrestlers backstage.
While appearing on What Do You Wanna Talk About? with Cody Rhodes, Bayley talked about a fun “yo mama” joke battle she used to have with her close friend Carmella. Bayley said they would keep trying to outdo each other with crazier jokes. At first, it was just between them, but soon others around them started noticing, and it became a bit of a show.
Bayley showed unexpected side with Carmella during NXT Days
During their conversation, Brandi Rhodes also pointed out how surprising it was. She said Bayley’s innocent image made those jokes even more unexpected.
Brandi said, “So, that was a phase of which Carmella and you at the time had a running daily thing going about each other’s moms. And it was nuts. So, much to the point that like, I learned so much about each of you in that. Like you’re the sweetest, nicest aura of a human being.”
Bayley laughed and replied, “It’s so funny that people remember that because at first, obviously, it started with just us, like popping each other. But then it became when everybody was like, Sami Zayn was one of the funniest ones. We’d just be standing there, and we’d say something, like, really like vulgar. And he’d be like, ‘Carmella…Bayley!'”
“I love how much it threw everybody off, you know? Sometimes it just became a thing where we were just trying to like freak everybody out. It was amazing. But we still like all the time, even like, since I see Graves at work all the time. I’ll just rant. If we’re in the same makeup area, like sitting across from each other, I’ll just say something so he can hear it. But she is the best. That’s one of my funnest memories then,” Bayley added.
Bayley and Carmella became really good friends during their NXT days, bonding over random things like their shared love for Kobe Bryant and even silly tricks like Carmella’s “invisible string” bit.
Even though their careers later took them in different directions and sometimes made them rivals, their actual friendship stayed strong. Bayley said they still talk often and text each other regularly, even now, although Carmella stays busy with her two babies.
