WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes has explained why his feud with Randy Orton feels very real ahead of WrestleMania 42.
On the March 13 episode of WWE SmackDown, both stars signed the contract for their WrestleMania match. Right after that, Orton suddenly attacked Rhodes. He left him bloodied in the ring, which shocked fans.
Since then, Orton said the advisor helped him embrace his killer instinct. Last week on WWE SmackDown, the two got into a heated brawl. The fight quickly turned intense between them. With WrestleMania 42 just weeks away, the rivalry continues to grow. Rhodes explained why this feud feels real to him.
Cody Rhodes says Randy Orton rivalry is built on real history
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Rhodes said the feud feels real because of their long history. He said, “So, this is probably going to sound funny. I mean, not to the Busted Open listener, because they love and know wrestling, but to those who are coming for the first time, I say one of the things I love the most about this is it’s incredibly real. And pro wrestling is at its best when it’s real.”
He continued, “Here is almost 20 years of onscreen connection, equity my first match in the company on Monday Night Raw, my dad’s last match, legacy, everything that would take place when I came back in terms of being someone who welcomed me back, to standing in the ring in London with me, thanking me for what I’ve brought to WWE, and hearing that from the guy you need to hear it from. And all of this boils down to the moment in the night main event of WrestleMania, where I’m looking across the ring at Randy Orton.”
Rhodes and Orton have shared a long journey in WWE since 2007. Orton also mentored Rhodes in The Legacy. Over time, that relationship changed into a rivalry. Now, their story has come full circle as they get ready to face each other at WrestleMania 42.
