Former WWE Star Alberto Del Rio Remains In Custody After Domestic Violence Charge

Former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio remains in legal custody following a serious domestic violence allegation in Mexico. Moreover, new developments have shed light on his current situation.

The case stems from an incident on April 6, 2026, in San Luis Potosí. Authorities responded to a reported disturbance — a situation that has since escalated into formal legal proceedings.

Alberto Del Rio held in preventive detention as the investigation continues

According to Milenio, a control judge has ordered that Alberto Del Rio remain in preventive detention after being formally charged with family violence by the State General Prosecutor’s Office.

Reports indicate that state Civil Guard officers arrived at a residence in the Lomas del Tec neighborhood following an emergency call. Upon arrival, authorities allegedly found Del Rio in the act of physically and verbally assaulting his partner. His partner allegedly showed visible injuries on her face and arms.

He was detained at the scene and later transferred to the Fiscalía General del Estado de San Luis Potosí. The investigation remains ongoing. The alleged victim is currently under medical and legal protection, according to multiple reports.

Prosecutors are evaluating potential charges under Mexican law. One option includes a standard domestic violence charge, which carries a lower sentencing range. However, a more serious classification — involving gender-based violence — could result in significantly higher penalties if pursued.

Del Rio’s defense team has requested additional time under the constitutional framework to determine his legal status, indicating that further developments are expected in the coming days.

It is important to note that Del Rio has not been convicted and is presumed innocent as the legal process continues.

This situation adds another chapter to Del Rio’s complicated career history. However, for now, the focus remains on the ongoing investigation and the judicial outcome that will follow.
