Triple H recently opened up about WWE’s leadership transition, and his comments cleared up a lot of confusion. It was not a clean break from Vince McMahon.
Triple H became WWE’s Chief Content Officer in September 2022. That happened after McMahon stepped away amid controversy. But the situation was not simple. McMahon returned in early 2023 during the company’s sale process. For a while, both were involved behind the scenes.
That made things complicated. Even after Triple H took the role, McMahon still had influence. He was still part of meetings. Still giving input. That created a strange transition period.
Triple H says he had to answer for decisions that were not entirely his
Speaking on What Do You Wanna Talk About? With Cody Rhodes, Triple H was asked if WrestleMania 40 was his first fully in charge as Chief Content Officer. He said, “I think so, though, you know, there was, and again, this is very terrible at times, but it’s not like one day, here’s yours, and everything else went away.”
“There’s so many aspects to that of, you know, hey, Vince’s stepping away, you’re going to take this spot, but he’s trying to get in, he’s still meeting with me all the time, he’s still, you know, directing traffic from the side, and there’s no real, it’s weird, no real clear moment for me, but I would consider it that, yes.”
He also talked about the pressure he faced. He said, “The only thing that is difficult in that transition, you’re trying to, at the end of the day, when people are like, yeah, it’s your decision, right? Yeah, sort of. You know what I mean? Like, you’re, yes, and you have to defend your position, and you have to be able to sell that to people, explain it to people, if it’s a little bit not your position, or a little bit, well, why did this happen?”
“And you don’t want to say, well, You don’t want to say, ‘Well, it wasn’t totally my decision.’ Not because you don’t want to seem like you don’t have power you just have to position that way. It’s just so complex. There are so many aspects even on just a regular, general, daily basis you’re putting something out there, and in some manner, in an ideal world, I would do this.”
He continued, “We don’t live in an ideal world it’s a realistic world. I can’t do that because of this or that. It can be something as simple as these two people don’t get along. I know this person has an injury that I can’t put out there whatever the moment, the sequence is.”
