A new TNT Champion has been crowned at AEW Dynasty.
AEW President Tony Khan confirmed last week that former TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher is dealing with a meniscus injury along with other physical issues, and that he has been forced to vacate the title. He then decided to have a Casino Gauntlet match at Dynasty to crown a new champion.
Tommaso Ciampa and Rush earned the first two spots in the match by defeating Máscara Dorada and Anthony Bowens, respectively, on AEW Dynamite and Collision. Eight more wrestlers entered the contest, which featured some high-octane back-and-forth action.
The order of entry:
- Tommaso Ciampa
- Rush
- Bandido
- Speedball Mike Bailey
- El Clon
- PAC
- Daniel Garcia
- Anthony Bowens
- Kevin Knight
- Wheeler Yuta
Rush put on a good performance in the match and even tried to unmask ROH World Champion Bandido early on. The Death Riders had the advantage with three of their members entering the match. They also seemed focused on bringing the AEW TNT Championship to the group and didn’t worry about who among them would win it, as PAC allowed Daniel Garcia to lock the Dragon Tamer on Speedball Mike Bailey.
However, Bailey’s JetSpeed partner, Kevin Knight, performed a UFO Splash on Garcia as he kept his hold on Bailey and pinned him to become the new AEW TNT Champion.
With the victory, Kevin Knight has won his first singles title in AEW and his career. Mike Bailey seemed upset after the match. He and Knight also teased fighting each other during the contest, and it will be interesting to see if this would create a rift between them in the coming days.
