AJ Lee comments on CM Punk closing WWE WrestleMania 42.
During a recent interview with Rick Ucchino of The Takedown on SI, WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion AJ Lee reacted to CM Punk’s continued success in WWE.
AJ Lee expressed her excitement about watching CM Punk receive the spotlight and thrive at the top level, adding that WWE should be proud to have him as champion.
“I think it’s just been really cool, as a spectator, to see someone who’s the best in the business be treated like that and get that spotlight while being the champion. I think the company can be proud to have him as champion. He’s delivered,” AJ said.
She also shared how rewarding it has been to witness his happiness up close as both a colleague and partner, even joking about their shared bond with Bayley at work.
“As his partner, it’s really cool to be at work and see him thriving and just so happy. It’s also nice to bring that home with you on the road. I can have lunch with him, and we even share a ‘work wife’ in Bayley. We’re always like, ‘She’s mine — no, she’s mine.’
“So it’s fun to go on this different adventure together. But I’m just so proud of him, and I know he deserves it more than anyone. I’ll definitely be watching like a true fangirl backstage.”
WrestleMania 42 Sunday will mark the second time CM Punk closes out WWE’s biggest premium live event of the year. He previously headlined WrestleMania 41 Night 1 alongside Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns in a triple threat match.
