WWE Star The Miz Reveals The Secret To A Successful Marriage

The Miz says listening helps in many parts of life.

The WWE Superstar had the honor of officiating five weddings — or WWEddings — in Las Vegas thanks to a once-in-a-lifetime experience hosted by ESPN.

The Miz and the five lucky couples took part in a WWE-inspired wedding ceremony at the famed Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. The newlyweds went home with an honorary “WWEdding” certificate, as well as photo ops with official WWE belts to commemorate the occasion.

WWE’s must-see Superstar spoke with the media after the nuptials took place. There, WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard asked what his secret to a successful marriage was. Miz said it’s all about listening and being present in the moment, which helps with his wife, Maryse, as well as in other public spaces, too.

The Miz stresses the importance of being present

“Listening. Listening and put down the phone. That is one thing I always have a hard time with is listening because I like to talk a lot, believe it or not. I think this is a lesson for every marriage out there. Put down the phone and talk to each other,” The Miz explained. “This is crazy that I’m going to say this, but The Masters, of all places that I went to last weekend, had zero phones. And I had conversations with people I normally wouldn’t have conversations with.”

The Miz said that normally, he will get a request for a photo, or it’s a fairly brief interaction. The absence of phones allowed him to have a real conversation.

“When I was there, people were like, ‘Hey, Miz, I loved you in this match.’ I thought, ‘Oh, what other matches do you like? Oh, who else do you like?’ And you start having conversations with people. So my best advice for couples out there is listening to one another, talking to each other,” he shared. “And if you have a problem, don’t go to bed on it. Make sure you solve the problem. Talk it out. Even though it’s going to be hard, it might be a late night.”

The Miz hopes the WWEdding couples enjoy marriage as much as he has

The Miz said that agreeing to officiate these weddings was an easy decision for him. Not only was his own wedding one of the best days of his life, but part of his job as a WWE Superstar is to entertain fans in any way he can.

“We always say WWE is about two things: creating moments and creating smiles on people’s faces. I don’t know what does that better than a wedding,” he explained. “When ESPN and WWE came to me and said, ‘Would you like to officiate weddings at WrestleMania in Las Vegas?’ Yes was the instant answer because I remember my wedding.

“When I married Maryse, that was one of the most happiest moments of my life. I wanted to make sure that the couples that were going to do this at WrestleMania had the same experience and hopefully have same kind of moments of love and happiness that I had. So to be able to share that with all of them, it was amazing. It was, dare I say, awesome.”

We’re glad Miz enjoyed his wedding, because he didn’t look too happy about Danhausen ruined his vow renewal ceremony.

The Miz will be in tag team action at WWE Backlash this weekend. Miz and Kit Wilson will face off with Danhausen and a mystery opponent who will be revealed at the Premium Live Event.
