A new revelation from the 2026 Netflix docuseries Hulk Hogan: Real American has shed light on a pivotal moment in WWE history, with Paul “Triple H” Levesque confirming his role in delivering Hulk Hogan’s 2015 exit — though the full story carries more layers.
The situation dates back to July 2015, when WWE cut ties with Hogan following the release of transcripts containing racial slurs, stemming from a 2012 recording.
Triple H details WWE decision amid corporate pressure and fallout
In the docuseries, Triple H clarified that while he made the call, the decision itself came from higher up the ladder. In wrestling terms, this wasn’t his pinfall to claim.
“I didn’t fire Hulk Hogan, I fired Terry Bollea,” he said, drawing a clear line between the larger-than-life persona and the man behind it.
Hogan initially reached out to warn about the leaked audio. Triple H told him he would speak with Vince McMahon, but the response came quickly. Roughly 30 minutes later, the call returned with a directive: “Vince said that you need to resign.”
The reasoning was rooted in corporate pressure. Triple H explained that the USA Network reacted “very badly” to the situation. This forced WWE to act swiftly to limit damage. In effect, Hogan was put “out to pasture” — a phrase that, while blunt, reflected the urgency of the moment.
The fallout was immediate. WWE removed Hogan from its website, pulled merchandise, and suspended his Hall of Fame status. It was a clean break, even if it didn’t stay permanent.
Hogan was reinstated in 2018 after issuing apologies and meeting with talent. Years later, following his passing on July 24, 2025, WWE honored him with a 10-bell salute — proving that in wrestling, even the toughest stories can come full circle.
