The fallout from The New Day’s recent departure continues to evolve, as WWE is reportedly exploring an unexpected way to keep Xavier Woods in the fold — just not inside the ring.
According to reports from the Wrestling Observer, the company has floated what insiders are calling a “Tyler Breeze deal.” This move could see Woods remain part of WWE’s extended universe while stepping away from full-time competition.
It’s a curveball that feels less like a clean break and more like a side quest — fitting for someone who built a second career around gaming.
WWE’s “Tyler Breeze deal” could keep Xavier Woods in the game
The proposed arrangement would shift Woods into a non-wrestling role focused on video game consulting and digital content.
Specifically, he would contribute to the WWE 2K franchise and continue his involvement with the UpUpDownDown YouTube channel — a platform he helped turn into a fan-favorite hub.
Bryan Alvarez noted on Wrestling Observer Live that he had “heard this from a lot of people.” He added that WWE is actively trying to retain Woods in this capacity.
However, whether Woods accepts remains uncertain. As Alvarez put it, “it is not a foregone conclusion” that both former New Day members will land elsewhere.
The offer mirrors the current status of Tyler Breeze. Breeze has remained under a WWE agreement for gaming-related work since his 2021 in-ring release. Breeze and Woods already share a working relationship through UpUpDownDown, making the comparison more than just a passing reference.
Woods and Kofi Kingston exited WWE on May 2 after declining requests from parent company TKO Group Holdings to restructure contracts that run until 2030 at reduced pay. Both were subsequently moved to the alumni section, signaling an official split.
While Kingston is widely expected to explore opportunities elsewhere following his non-compete period, Woods’ next move remains less clear.
For now, WWE appears determined to keep at least one member of The New Day playing on its console — even if he’s no longer stepping between the ropes.
