WWE Hall of Famer Booker T spoke about The New Day’s situation after their WWE release.
Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods left WWE this week, after contract talks did not go as planned. The reports mentioned restructuring, but they did not agree, and then they moved on. Kingston later shared a long and reflective message looking back at his career over many years. Woods, also known as Austin Creed, shared thoughts about his 16-year run, mentioning memories, titles, and the bond with The New Day, keeping it simple.
Both now enter a 90-day waiting period, a standard step before signing anywhere else. However, Booker T recently spoke about their future options.
Booker T says New Day shouldn’t leave ‘money on the table’
Speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T shared his view. He said both wrestlers have already achieved a lot in WWE.
“You know, what else could they have done? They did everything other than win the title. Yeah, they did everything. But the thing with WWE is sticking around. To really be a part of the show, that’s what it comes down to. A lot of these guys, like Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston, still have a lot more to the game.”
“I heard it was one of those things between both parties, as far as things being right. And the thing is, I’m sure those guys are Hall of Famers first ballot Hall of Famers when the time comes. So I’m sure there’s going to be a way back for those guys.”
He then spoke about financial opportunities outside WWE and mentioned All Elite Wrestling as an option.
“But still, I’m a realist. You don’t leave money on the table. And right now, there’s money floating around out there. Last time I said guys like Edge and Ric Flair going over, I said AEW is a good place to retire. But people don’t talk about what I say it’s also a good place to start.”
“Like I said, it’s a great place to start too. People try to twist it. If I say one thing, they don’t mention the other. It is a great place to end your career. You can get paid just as much money on your way out as you were making at the end of your career. Is that not a good deal? Amazing. I hope I get it.”
Booker T added that wrestlers can earn well late in their careers. “I see so many people hating when I make a comment like that, but that’s a really good deal if you can get it. So for me, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, just like The Hurt Business hey, you’ve got to retire sometime. And you want to leave this business with some money in your pocket. That’s the way I look at it.”
