Bayley revisited one of the most memorable betrayals of WWE’s modern women’s division this week with a short but revealing social media post aimed at her former partner Mercedes Moné (fka Sasha Banks).
On May 7, Bayley reposted a clip (X) showing her infamous 2020 attack on Sasha Banks. Bayley hinted that frustration had been building long before the steel chair came into play.
The post immediately caught fans’ attention because the rivalry between the former “Boss ‘n’ Hug Connection” partners remains one of WWE’s most personal storylines of the past decade.
Even years later, it appears some scars don’t heal with a simple tag — they require a full count to settle.
Bayley reflects on Sasha Banks’ betrayal from WWE SmackDown
Bayley reposted the clip originally shared by @Zeyadli_and added the caption, “Being held down will do things to ya.”
While brief, the comment appeared to explain her mindset leading into the September 4, 2020, episode of SmackDown. She brutally turned on Banks after their failed attempt to regain the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships.
That night, Bayley initially acted as though she was helping her injured partner leave the ring following losses to Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler. Instead, she inflicted damage on Banks’ injured leg against the steel steps. Then she escalated the assault with a steel chair wrapped around Sasha’s neck.
The betrayal ended the duo’s year-long alliance as “The Golden Role Models,” despite the pair previously becoming the inaugural WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions at Elimination Chamber 2019. Bayley later claimed during storyline promos that she had been “using” Banks throughout their partnership to protect her historic 380-day SmackDown Women’s Championship reign.
Banks eventually returned later that month to seek revenge. This led to a heated rivalry that culminated in Hell in a Cell in October 2020. There, Sasha forced Bayley to tap out to the Bank Statement and captured the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
Bayley last appeared on the April 27 edition of RAW teaming with Lyra Valkyria in a loss to Judgment Day’s Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez. Meanwhile, Moné (formerly Sasha Banks) recently stated that her return to AEW is coming “really, really soon” following her international tour.
